Artist Spotlight: Trevor Holmes
We caught up with talented singer Trevor Holmes as he talked about his experience in American Idol, how he got into music and the inspiration behind his latest single “Walls.”

MFP: How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
Trevor: Passionate, Happy, Adventurous, Kind, Curious
What do you love about Los Angeles?
I love what a cultural mixing pot it is. There's just so much verity when it comes to art, food, people. I think it's beautiful. I also love that the city just feels like opportunity. Like anything can happen at any moment. Its exciting and inspiring. I also love that living here, I can surf and snowboard all in the same day.
How was the experience at American Idol?
I had an incredible experience that I wouldn't trade for anything. I was the scariest but most rewarding experience/challenge I've ever gone through. I feel like I can push myself to do anything now.
Most Memorable experience in the show (American Idol)?
It definitely had to be my audition in Hollywood. Before I walked into that room in front of the judges and all of the lights and cameras, my heart felt like it was going to explode. Every ounce of my body wanted to run away. I was so nervous and terrified. But I took a very deep breath and literally said to myself "Come on Trevor, you fucking got this!!' and I just held my head high and walked in the room and did my thing. The rest of the world saw what happened next lol.
How did you get into music?
One of my best friends James got a guitar for his 13th bday. I had never picked up a guitar before, but he said "hey man let me teach you a song!" so he taught me how to play "smoke on the water", which I'm pretty sure the the first song everyone learns hah. I was hooked from that moment on. My amazing mom got me a guitar for my 13th bday and I never looked back. I never took any lessons, I just learned to play by ear. I still play by ear to this day.
How would you describe your music?
My music has evolved and shifted over the years like most artists. But I think the one thing my music has always done is tell stories with clever lyrics. I've always been so intrigued and inspired by other artists who can tell such brilliant stories with clever lyrics.
What do you think makes a great song?
I think for me the answer to this one is pretty simple. Does it make you feel something? if it makes me feel happy or sad or any emotion then I feel it's a great song.
What's your favorite song at the moment?
Right now it's Eric Church's song "Mixed Drinks About Feelings". It's so brilliantly written. Brilliant production as well.
If you had the change to collaborate with any artist who would it be and why?
I would have to say Ed Sheehan, or Chris Stapleton. To me they are the pinnacle of great artists/writers. Working with either would be an absolute honor.
What’s the main inspiration of your new single “Walls?”
My song "Walls" is about fighting for love. To love someone who deserves love but may have 'Walls' up from being hurt before.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years I see myself On a tourbus with my wife and kids traveling the world playing my music :)
next for me, I will be releasing another Single very soon which will be followed by a full length EP. Soon after that I will be touring, hopefully to a city near you ;)
