As you gain experience in the music industry, how would you describe your evolution/growth?

My growth in the industry has been a gradual and steady one. I’ve had to be very patient while gaining new fans daily with every new song/project around the world. It has been a blessing overall and I don’t take it for granted.

What is something that you learned about life or about yourself during the many days of quarantine?

Self Love, self care and mental wellness is very important.

What has been one of the most memorable moments in your career?

It has to be connecting back to my roots. Spending more time in Lagos, Nigeria after almost 20 years of living in the US is the best feeling for me.

Who is someone special in your life that keeps you grounded?

My Family as whole keeps me grounded everyday.

What upcoming projects are you currently excited about?

I’m currently finishing my Debut full length Album titled “My WorlD With U”.

Besides music, what are some other passions?

I love traveling, working out and cooking for loved ones at my leisure times.

What is the biggest difference between WurlD and Sadiq Onifade?

What a great question ! I believe Sadiq Onifade is the songwriter/producer/creator behind the scenes and WurlD is the artist/brand.

Tell me about your hometown? How are your roots part of who you are, especially in your music?

My family hometown is Ogun State, Nigeria but I was born and raised in Lagos. Lagos is beautiful, gritty, fast, intense and has some of the most resilient people you’ll ever meet around the world. The energy in Lagos is like no other place I’ve lived in. Lagos shaped me to be resilient and dedicated to the music I do and I only strive to be successful at it.

What is a misconception that some might have of you?

I believe it’s being African in the music industry. People automatically think all I do is Afrobeat until they listen to my music and observe the range in my sound overall. I’m an African-born artist making world music.

What is the dream? What are you working towards? The ultimate goal?

The ultimate goal for me is using my success and influence to give back to the universe through philanthropic work. I’m passionate about collaborating with non-profit organizations to create infrastructures that assists the less fortunate kids with tools to realize their true dreams.

In the perfect collaboration, who do you see yourself working alongside?

Kanye West

A favorite dish that reminds you of your childhood?

When on vacation, where do you like to spend your days?

At the beach. A perfect stay would be a house overlooking the beach.

Being in California (or any location), how does location influence your music?

Absolutely, Cali is one of my favorite places in the world btw. My music is heavily influenced by culture, people and places. I take bits and pieces of everything that inspires me in different cities and infuse the energy in my music.

Have you ever made a mistake that has taught you a valuable lesson? What’s that lesson?

Yes I have! Many times actually. One I can think of now is learning to be a better listener and observer. This helps me communicate better and more empathetic to other people’s emotions and needs around me.
